People with fibromyalgia walk a fine line.
Many things can tip the balance and lead to what we call a fibro-flare where symptoms temporarily increase in intensity.
We are often sensitive to:
- weather
- cold or drafty environments
- hormonal fluctuations
- odors
- loud noises
- bright lights
- some foods (these are mine)
- prescription medications
- poor quality sleep
- stress
- depression
- anxiety
- over-exertion
- anything that disrupts normal routine
Anything you want to add to the list of what aggravates fibro?

I can never work out what aggravates mine!
ReplyDeleteSometimes there is just no rhyme or reason and I think many people can't work out what aggravates their fibro symptoms.
DeleteMe neither and Summer heat is the worst I feel like a feather could knock me over.
DeleteOh my, so many things can make me suffer more than normal, but the weather is right up there by the top. It's frustrating. Most days I hate myself for every little tiny pain. And no one I know personally has a clue. So lonely at the bottom.
DeleteANY noise when I'm trying to go to sleep. I sleep upstairs and my husband watching TV downstairs as to turn it down way low so I can't hear it.
DeleteThat's a woman thing....nothing to do with fibromyalgia 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
DeleteSTRESS!
ReplyDeleteYes, stressis the worst for me even if it's something good like a friends' wedding it makes my symptoms worse for days.
DeleteIt is the same for me. No one understands how a little get together with family and friends can make me sick for days and sometimes weeks, but it does! I have come to dread those occasions now.
DeleteAnd if your family is like mine, who just don't get it, if you miss a family function you never hear the end of it.
DeleteI just quit going all together
Stress and Chaos
ReplyDeleteYes, love that word chaos, it explains well the 2 things that I cannot handle... need calmness and order
DeleteEmotional situations and exercise
ReplyDeleteJennifer J - yes even good emotions are exhausting and it's sad but true that it's hard to walk that fine line between too much exercise and not enough. I definitely have exercise intolerance but when I say this to many people they think it is a joke and it's not.
DeleteMine are definitely over exertion and weather. I do not tolerate sudden changes in weather well and over exertion usually comes from trying to do too much in regard to working and keeping the house clean - because you know...men. lol
ReplyDeleteWeather and significant pressure changes in it bring me to my knees, as in unable to move until it passes. Tornado warning are the worst, next is Sever Thunderstorms.
Deletemy flares come from weather change, humidity, cold weather, tired, being yelled at from my husband about stupid things! Also, I broke my elbow so I deal with pain from that and fibro pain.
ReplyDeleteYell back at him, don't take shit from a man and shame on him for even treating you like that!! Find someone with more compassion.
DeleteEverything...and nothing
ReplyDeleteYes, it feels like that sometimes.
DeleteMine is aggravated by gluten, cold weather, stress, dairy and a lot of the time just because.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have it worked out for you Molly May
DeleteFor me all on the list plus foods with added sugars, or foods that turn into sugar quickly, too much carbs and everything with gluten.
ReplyDeleteHey Deg60, I am the same get really spun out and more achey with sugar foods and processed carbs like white bread and white pasta and gluten is a big one for me too.
DeleteIt seems over the last 4 years I find my body to be so darn moody! I can’t do anything or it flares! Alcohol also causes flares and I love to drink 😞
ReplyDeleteStress, weather, illness, lack of sleep, food, temperature, breathing lol but seriously I can’t even clean my house alone or I’m in bed for 3 or 4 days! I feel like I have allllllll the symptoms that come with Fibromyalgia which as you know the list is very extensive! I pray for a cure for us all! My heart goes out to you all!
I'm dealing with this crap since over 30 years and the older I get, the worse the Fibro gets. What aggravates? Everything and nothing..... I just don't know - the only thing I know is the weather change, in any way, that kills me every time. I've had even surgeries and am now up to morphine because nothing else helped a bit, but the morphine doesn't really help the way I would wish it would. .... We are able to fly to the moon and to mars (which costs billions), but the Pharma Mafia isn't able to (or doesn't want to) develope a pain killer for this crap disease. ..... I'm so sick and tired of the pain every day.....
DeleteMy pain doctor told me it is the barometric pressure that comes with the storms that causes the pain. Tropical storms that come through Cuba etc.causes me the most pain.
DeleteScrew Fibromyalgia.
ReplyDeleteI have all the symptoms and very tired and in pain and can't sleep headaches just don't want to do anything!!
ReplyDeleteso sorry to hear that Stella.
DeleteI’m ok with sleeping in fact it’s waking up I have problems with!!Scented candles or sticks are a no especially vanilla, instant migraine also furniture polish does the same! As for weather I love the months April May Sept and Oct the rest I have horrible flare ups and can stay in the house forever!
ReplyDeleteSo yes you def. have sensitivity to smells and weather. My son works in a candle factory and wants me to smell these amazing candles!!!
DeleteWhat about cannabis oil?
ReplyDeleteI tried CBD oil but it actually caused me to have cognitive problems. Some people think it helps them though.
DeleteMine is the sun, if I go out and my body is exposed for a while to the sun. I get this horrible migraines that triggers all the other pain causing a flare up.
ReplyDeleteYes, sun exposure is a big one for many people. I put this under the Weather category.
DeleteChange of seasons, especially cold weather nitrates in food or wine;
ReplyDeletesmoked foods; salt on or in foods, gluten sensitive; MSG; being sedentary; very sensitive to sounds & light sensitive .
Thats right so many triggers. MSG is in so many things but the worst is if I eat chinese food... just can't sleep that night with pain and rstless leg syndrome etc.

Dealing with this crap on a daily basis. Always in pain, everything causes flare ups. Never gets through one before something else be it weather, stress or just existing. I just want my life back.

ReplyDeleteChanges in weather patterns (season change/storms) Humid weather, stress, gluten and over-doing dairy flare me up.
ReplyDeleteYES! Goodywin, dairy just sets me off straight away. At least you know your triggers
DeleteDoing simple house chores for example sweeping my floors. stress also affects me and so does weather changes.
ReplyDeleteI have found taking Collagen helps a lot with pain. Try it for a few months!
ReplyDeleteA lot of my flare ups come from the stress and anxiety of people not believing something is wrong with me. I've asked my husband to look up Fibromyalgia so he can understand what's happening to my body. No luck. I especially can't deal with the Drs that roll their eyes when you tell them what's wrong. And my house full of grown kids that expect me to clean up after them constantly have another thought coming
ReplyDeleteMuy flare ups are stress and walking and sweeping and mopping and vacuuming and going upstairs and people think I'm lazy!!
ReplyDeleteAll sudden weather changes get me, but thunderstorms are the worst. Even just rain makes me hurt more. I know when it will rain and whether or not it will be a storm by how my body feels. I practically predicted the last tornado weather we had too!
ReplyDeleteAll the above!... But also when I travel!.. It is the worse thing ever!... It takes me several days to recover so I can't never enjoy my trips because I always have flare up days that might take me weeks to feel just a little better! Also when I get up in the mornings!.. My body hurts so bad that you can also hear it cracking like a cookie!.... :(
ReplyDeleteMy worst trigger is the weather. At bedtime I take CBD Oil and it helps so much. We live in Idaho where it’s illegal unless you have the oil with less than .3% THC. I just wish it lasted longer. I’m so sorry for all of you with this crap but it sure helps to hear all of you who feel the way I do. For so long most everyone thought I was just faking it and I knew I wasn’t. Lots of gentle hugs to all!
ReplyDeleteFor me it's the weather changes, sunlight( triggers my migraines, not just flare ups) and do too much, like, do more than few chores kick my butt(mini flare ups unless I do more than couple chores, it's full blown flare ups), mini trips, even few hrs drive to visit relatives(sleep over for a night or two and I am not the one driving!!) put me in bed for weeks. I started having fibro symptoms in my teens, by time I was in my 30's, Dr said I already reached 3 stage and I am in my mid 40's.And in 6th stage. My husband started having it several years ago& I recognized the symptoms and he totally get me now, understood what I went thru for decades but my family even tho they are nice about it, don't fully understand what fibromyalgia is really like. friends in general?? No luck there
